The CR-V has used the K24 since 2002, which makes it one of the more straightforward vehicles to source an engine for: there is no trim split to worry about and no V6 option to rule out.
The generation still matters. A 2002–2006 CR-V uses the K24A1; the 2007–2011 cars use K24Z variants; the 2012–2016 cars use later K24Z and K24W units. Intake, calibration and accessory layout differ across those.
Owners of the first-generation CR-V are in a different situation. Those cars used the B20 rather than a K-series, which is a much older engine with a much thinner remaining supply.
Straightforward is not the same as interchangeable
Because every modern CR-V is "a K24", it is tempting to treat the family code as sufficient. It is not. The K24A1 in a second-generation car and the K24Z1 in a third differ in intake, calibration and accessory layout.
The variant that causes the most trouble here is the one from a TSX. The K24A2 is the most sought-after K24 and turns up in listings constantly, but it was built for a different car with a different head and a different compression ratio. It is not a CR-V part.

Where Honda CR-V orders go wrong
- The generation determines which K24 variant, even though every generation since 2002 is "a K24".
- First-generation CR-Vs use the B20, not a K-series. Different engine, different supply.
- All-wheel drive and front-wheel drive applications differ in supporting hardware.
- Supply the year and VIN rather than "CR-V K24", which does not identify a part.
None of this needs to be worked out on your own. The Engine Finder asks for the year, model and trim and does the identification from there. The engine code field is optional precisely because most people do not have it.

Common questions
Will any K24 fit my CR-V?
No. The CR-V used the K24A1 and then a series of K24Z variants, and other K24s, the TSX K24A2 in particular, differ in cylinder head, intake manifold and calibration. Supply your model year and VIN and let a supplier match the variant rather than ordering on the family code.
