Lexus JDM Engines in Phoenix, Arizona
Lexus engines are Toyota engines, which is good news for supply and no help at all with variant identification.
The Lexus models that generate engine enquiries here are the early ones: the LS 400, SC 400 and GS 400 with the 1UZ-FE V8, and the GS300, IS300 and SC300 with the 2JZ-GE inline-six.
All of these cars are now old, which shifts the buying question away from specification and toward condition and provenance. The engines have good reputations; the specific units available have widely varying histories.
Getting the family code exactly right
The UZ family contains three engines that get referred to loosely: the 4.0-litre all-aluminium 1UZ-FE, the 4.7-litre iron-block 2UZ-FE built for trucks, and the 4.3-litre 3UZ-FE. They are not substitutes for one another and they differ substantially in weight.
On the six-cylinder side, a GS300 or IS300 uses the naturally aspirated 2JZ-GE, not the turbocharged GTE from the Supra. Listings sometimes blur that distinction, and the price difference makes it worth confirming against the stamp.

Common questions
Are Lexus engines just Toyota engines?
Yes, in the sense that they come from Toyota engine families and were built by Toyota. The Lexus applications often received the higher-output or more thoroughly specified version. For sourcing purposes that means looking under the Toyota family code, while confirming the specific variant your car was built with.
What engine is in an LS 400?
The 1UZ-FE, a 4.0-litre all-aluminium V8 with a DOHC 32-valve layout, fitted from the model’s introduction in 1989. Later production added variable valve timing, which changes the engine management requirements, so the model year matters when matching an ECU.
