The J32 is Honda's 3.2-litre V6, a J-series engine positioned between the J30 and the J35 in displacement. Unlike those two, the J32 was used almost exclusively in Acura models rather than Honda-branded vehicles, which gives it a narrower but more targeted application base.
The most significant variant is the J32A2, fitted to the Acura CL Type-S and TL Type-S. It uses a higher-compression pistons, a revised cylinder head and VTEC on the intake camshaft, producing meaningfully more output than the standard J32A. The J32A3 followed in the later TL, with further revisions to intake and calibration.
For a replacement buyer the important point is that J32 variants are not interchangeable with the J30 or J35 despite the shared J-series architecture. The displacement reflects different bore and stroke dimensions, and the VTEC implementation differs between the standard and Type-S variants.
The Type-S is a different specification

Identifying a J32
- The J-series code is stamped on the block; the suffix carries the variant information. J32A2 and J32A3 are the common US-market codes.
- The VTEC solenoid on the cylinder head distinguishes the J32A2 from non-VTEC J-series engines. Its presence confirms a Type-S specification.
- Distinguishing a J32 from a J30 or J35 by external appearance is unreliable; the stamp is the definitive method.
A seller describing an engine as a particular variant is making a checkable claim. Asking for a photograph of the stamp on the actual unit is not a sign of distrust; it is the normal way this gets confirmed. What varies between J32 units
These are the differences that decide whether two engines with the same family code are substitutes in a particular car.

Can I put a J32 in a Honda Accord?
The J32 was an Acura-specific engine and was not factory fitted to any Honda Accord. While the J-series architecture is shared, the displacement, mounting and accessory layout differ from the J30 and J35 that the Accord used. A J32 in an Accord would be a swap, not a replacement.
