People reasonably assume that buying "an engine" means buying the thing they saw under the hood. What arrives is usually a long block or a partial assembly, with a varying and unpredictable collection of accessories still attached.

There is no industry standard for this. Two suppliers quoting the same engine may include quite different things, which also means the cheaper quote is not necessarily the cheaper purchase.

The usual split

This is a general pattern rather than a rule. It is a starting point for the question you should ask, not a substitute for asking it.

The email to send before you pay

Ask these five things in writing. A supplier who answers them clearly is easy to deal with later; one who does not is telling you something.

Is the intake manifold included, and the exhaust manifold?
Are the sensors and harness included, or should I plan to transfer mine?
Is there anything on this engine that will need replacing before it can be installed?
Can you send photographs of the actual unit, from several angles?

Why this changes what a quote is worth

Two quotes on the same engine family can differ by several hundred dollars and represent completely different purchases. The cheaper one may exclude the intake manifold and the sensors, which you then have to source separately or transfer. At labour cost.

This is the main reason this site does not publish prices. A number without a specification of what is attached to it is not comparable to another number, and presenting one as though it were would mislead more than it helped.

When you get a quote, get the inclusion list with it. That is what makes two quotes comparable.

What is included with a JDM engine?

Does a JDM engine come with the ECU?

Rarely as standard, though it is sometimes offered separately for Japanese-market units. Whether you need it depends on the engine and your vehicle. It is one of the things a fitment check establishes, and it belongs in the conversation before the engine ships.

Do I need to transfer parts from my old engine?

Usually yes, to some extent. Alternators, starters, pumps and often the harness come across. Plan for that as part of the installation rather than a surprise on the day, and do not scrap the old engine until the new one is in and running.
