The VK56DE is a 5,552 cc V8 introduced by Nissan for 2004, and it is the largest engine the company builds for its truck and full-size SUV line. It powers the Titan, the Armada, the Infiniti QX56 and the NV-series full-size van, and it is a fundamentally different engine from the VQ family despite sharing Nissan branding.

The VK family uses a cast-iron block with aluminium heads, a 90-degree V8 configuration and DOHC valve actuation with VVEL on later variants. It is built for torque and durability rather than the high-revving character of the VQ six-cylinders, which is what makes it appropriate for the heavier vehicles it serves.
